How the Self-Locking Mechanism Works

Unlike conventional free-spinning nuts that can work loose under continuous oscillating forces, a Nyloc nut uses prevailing torque friction. When an M5 bolt is threaded into the nut, its leading threads cut into—and elasticize—the undersized nylon ring.
